Spring 2022 Updates and Interesting Notes

‘Trickster I’ and ‘Guilding the Story’ have returned home from exhibit in the 43rd Contemporary Craft exhibit at the Mesa Contemporary Art Museum.

This is such a neat show to be a part of, such beautiful and complex artwork to explore. I have had the pleasure of being selected for the exhibit a couple of times (2020 and 2022). The exhibit occurs every year roughly mid February to late April.

The Mesa Contemporary Art Museum has a very active exhibit program, I’ve been enchanted by several exhibits over the years and I encourage others to explore this Museum!

Spring has brought me more studio time each week, and I am delighted. My main focus has been working to finish carving a piece I’ve been casually referring to as ‘the migratory wall’. This is a piece I’ve been working towards for years and physically much of the past year!

I’ve been experimenting with a new clay, Klammath Yellow, from Seattle Pottery Supply. The raw clay is yellow (in the upper left of the image above), bisques to orange (upper center/right in the image), and turns more red brown in the final firing (left disk in the middle row). The rest of the testers shown in the image are the Klammath Yellow with Amaco Velvet Underglaze colors. These are the first steps in understanding how a clay works and looks. I think will be a lovely base color for future sculptures.
