Updates and Interesting Notes Autumn 2022

Happy Autumn to you! Our garden has been bountiful, as has rain in SW Colorado- and we are grateful for both!

The main news to share this quarter is that I’ve joined the Artisans of Mancos Gallery here in SW Colorado. I installed several pieces on August 31st and officially started exhibiting with the gallery on September 1. A video of my initial exhibit set up can be seen here.

While I have been able to have a piece or two in exhibits throughout this year, it is a new experience to have a several pieces regularly on exhibit. The first few weeks have brought a few sales and some lovely feedback. This is an artist co-op which means I work in the gallery a few hours a week, this has brought lovely conversations with locals and the many, many folks who travel through the area to Mesa Verde National Park.

On the Drying Shelf….

This rabbit, made from Klammath Yellow clay from Seattle Pottery Supply is sculpted, carved, and is drying in preparation for bisque firing. During its the final firing, the yellow will turn burnt orange which should give the piece a ‘red rock’ feel. I am still working on testing what color(s) to stain the piece to emphasize its texture.

Experimentation corner!

These past few weeks I’ve been experimenting with making molds and casting concrete to create bases for a couple small pieces. The piece in the image to the right is an abstracted curled up fox, set in a cast concrete base. I like the contrast of the fluid natural form with the more geometric form, and the mix of wilderness and city forms and textures.

These hands are getting prepped to be molded and eventually cast. I am currently planning on casting this form in concrete as well, to hold the baby bunny in the image below.
